Cayden

See my progress on how I designed a character and brought it to life in 3D.

Design

This character was inspired by my own interests and love for style and color. I wanted to create a modern but unique character. The clothes I chose were specific to this era and hippie culture. Saturated and bright colors were used to reflect the characters personality: someone bright and bubbly.

Truly a deign who reflects who I am as an artist.

Backpack

The backpack is this characters statement piece. It had to embrace her personality as much as her clothes did. The colors work cohesively with her design. The charms also reference her necklaces and chains.

The pin on her backpack is a symbol of skate culture and street art.

Modeling

To model Cayden I used the program ZBrush. First I blocked out her pose with ZSpheres. I stacked them appropriately to create a pose that showed her mid-walking and holding her arm up to what would later be the backpack strap.

I started modeling her clothes first along with her backpack. The backpack was blocked out in Maya and then imported into the ZBrush scene. I then shaped it into a more organic version. Her face was also modeled separately in a different ZBrush document which would then be appended later.

Prepping for Color

After the modeling was complete I brought her design into photoshop to get the hex codes for the colors I would need to texture her with.

Texturing

The texturing was done in Substance Painter. I took the colors from her character sheet and painted them on. Since I wanted her to be more stylized I kept the texturing simple with just color and some shading.
